Want to know the latest Barca injury news after the International Break? We got you covered.

Barca have a pretty poor record when it comes to injuries especially in recent times with the Blaugrana reporting 48 injuries alone in the 2021/22 season. To add some context, the reported injuries in the 2021/22 season is more than the 2018/19 & 2019/20 season combined (47).

A study done by International Insurance company Howden revealed that Barca spent the third most amount on injury costs in the 2021/22 season (£27.92m/€33.23m) just behind Paris Saint Germain (£34.22m/€40.73m) and league rivals Real Madrid (£33.95m/€40.41m). Overall, the total number of injuries sustained across all of Europe’s top five leagues increased by 20% in the 2021/22 season with Chelsea leading the table with 97 reported injuries.

Note: Since this article is being released a bit later than planned, we want to give our readers some latest injury news coming from Barca’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan at the end of the article. Stay tuned.

Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay was forced to leave the dutch camp early and return to Barcelona after suffering from a hamstring injury. It is understood that Depay suffered an injury to the biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh. The reported timeline is said to be around 1 month which could indicate a Grade 1-2 strain.

Frenkie De Jong

Memphis Depay wasn’t alone in leaving the National team camp as he was joined by fellow teammate Frenkie De Jong who himself suffered from a hamstring injury. In De Jong’s case, there is involvement of the semitendinous muscle in his left thigh. The reported timeline is around 2-3 weeks which suggests a Grade 1 strain.

Jules Kounde

Another hamstring injury? Yeah, you guessed it right. At this rate, you might become an expert at hamstring injuries soon. You can read our article on hamstring injuries to know more.

Jules Kounde had to be withdrawn in the first half against Austria after feeling his hamstring. Barcelona revealed that Kounde injured the biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh. There have been conflicting reports on the return timeline but it is believed to be around 3 weeks which suggests a Grade 1 strain.

Ronald Araujo

Ronaldo Araujo suffered the worst injury out of anyone on this list. The Uruguayan International suffered an avulsion fracture (an avulsion fracture is when a fragment of bone is pulled by a tendon or ligament from the main mass of bone) of the adductor longus tendon in his right thigh. The Barca defender has opted for surgical repair and is expected to be out for 3 months thus jeopardizing his World Cup dreams.

Hector Bellerin

Hector Bellerin is understood to be suffering from a calf muscle strain. An official club statement revealed it to be a soleus muscle strain in his left leg. The Spanish full-back is set to miss 2-4 weeks which again suggests a Grade 1 strain.

Latest injury updates coming from Inter Milan vs Barca

Andreas Christensen

Andreas Christensen was seen hobbling after a heavy challenge in the second half and was soon substituted following his injury. Barcelona have confirmed that Andreas suffered from a left ankle sprain. However, it isn’t too specific. Watching back his injury, there is some external rotation of his left ankle which could result in a high ankle sprain or syndesmotic sprain. The timeline is yet to be determined and we’ll be keeping an eye out for any further developments on the Danish centre-back.

Frank Kessie

Frank Kessie was introduced as a late sub in the game. The former Milan midfielder is understood to have tweaked the adductor muscle in his right thigh. Reports indicate he could be out for around 2 weeks which suggests a very mild strain.
