The Premier League is back and so is the drama. With 20 teams in action, there will be a lot of goals, assists and unfortunately some injuries too. As there isn’t enough coverage of injuries, we will be on Premier League GW17 injury watch covering all the injuries as it happens.

Brentford vs Tottenham

Last minute absentee

Frank Onyeka (BRE)

Frank Onyeka missed the game with a hamstring injury.

Southampton vs Brighton

Last minute absentee

Alex McCarthy (SOU)

Alex McCarthy missed the game due to an ankle injury.

Leicester City vs Newcastle United

Last minute absentees

Callum Wilson (NEW)

Callum Wilson missed the game due to an illness.

Jonjo Shelvey (NEW)

Another injury setback for Jonjo Shelvey, who is reported to have injured his calf muscle. Shelvey faces 6-8 weeks on the sidelines, it sounds like a Grade 2 strain.

In-game injury

Dennis Praet (LEI)

Dennis Praet was substituted in the 17th minute after taking a knee to the abdomen/flank. The immediate concern goes towards underlying structures including bony/organ damage. The best-case scenario would be a contusion to the impacted area.

Everton vs Wolves

Daniel Podence (WOL)

Daniel Podence was taken off in the 73rd minute after complaining of discomfort in his left calf.

Yerry Mina (EVE)

Yerry Mina was substituted in the 76th minute after feeling something on his right hamstring.

Frank Lampard during his post-match conference updated on Mina’s condition:

“Cramp – we hope it’s cramp”.

Chelsea vs Bournemouth

Reece James (CHE)

Reece James started his first game after recovering from a knee injury(possible LCL sprain). The 23-year old seemed to have tweaked something early in the second half and quickly indicated towards the bench. It seems to be a recurrence of his previous injury.

Man United vs Nottingham Forest

Jese Lingard (NFO)

Jese Lingard went down early in the second half holding his right hamstring. It is interesting to note that Lingard’s right thigh was already heavily taped. It could be a recurrent hamstring issue or a pre-existing quadriceps issue.
